Making armatures
The process of making armatures is perhaps more exacting than supposed. If the armature isn't absolutely right then the sculpture will not work and Sophie often has to take drastic measures. It therefore pays to be meticulous in the preperation of armatures. Sophie has a good knowledge of welding but for larger armatures relies on her technical assistant Terry to assist in making the heavier frames. Here Sophie is preparing a light armature that she is covering with chicken wire which will help to bulk out the figure before applying plaster.
