The process of making sculpture, is one in which the artist must primarily address the aesthetic, but if they ignore the engineering considerations, they do so at their peril. In the early stages of working on the Dancing Hares, a lot of adjustments were made. Each time this happened, the balance of the sculpture changed. There was so much weight added by the addition of plaster; that the armature threatened to collapse from being unbalanced, until enough bulk had been added over the whole structure to stabilise it....more
