Forest of Dean

In 1988, Sophie was invited to be artist in residence in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. She created a sculpture called 'River Crossing' over a period of two months. She wanted the piece to be sited in water, in a secluded area, away from the crowds. A place of tranquility to discover. In the event the sculpture became so popular that the Forestry Commission cut back all the undergrowth around the piece and erected signs and a special walkway to gain better access, which was a pity, as it completly detracted from Sophie's original intention.
